MFI have been awarded the InBusiness Recognition Award for Finance Provider to Start-Ups & Micro-enterprises in 2021. This is an acknowledgement of MFI’s support for Irish micro-enterprises which supported over 860 jobs, through what was a challenging year for small businesses in Ireland. This is the third time in the past 4 years that Microfinance Ireland has received this award.


The InBusiness Recognition Awards aim to honour and celebrate success, achievement and ambition within Irish business and to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of individuals to grow and support business in this country.


The award is recognition of MFI’s disbursement of EUR8.8m of loans to almost 550 small businesses located in communities throughout Ireland. These businesses are often the cornerstone of their communities providing essential services and local employment. Having secured a new EUR30m loan facility from SBCI at the end of 2021 MFI will now seek to on lend that money to small businesses that are seeking finance but cannot access funding from the banks.


Des McCarthy, MFI’s CEO, commented, “We are delighted to have received this award which is recognition of the significant efforts of our staff to continue to service the financing needs of small businesses over the last few years no matter what challenges were put in their path. We aim to continue our journey of supporting small business using our new funding line from SBCI which gives us the ability to finance small and micro businesses that need finance to start and grow their businesses.”
